CATS

Iris Au is inspired by the memeification of cats that is created from modern day digital images to explore the form of cats and their range of facial expressions. Casted in metal from wax, the artist finds this exploration to be best conceived through the use of sculptural modelling on a small scale to be able to capture the hilarity of the cats’ pose and details of their facial expressions while maintaining the cuteness of the animal. This practise seeks to break down the pressure of recreating realistic subjects in perfection, accumulated from her training in fine art.
